Breaking the Silence: Exploring the Landscape of
Mental Illness
In the women's health portal you will find
quality-assured and reliable information on the most common mental illnesses
among women.
Many mental illnesses affect women more often
than men. In Germany, for example, people suffer within a year.
Various mental disorders can also occur in connection with one another. The most common comorbid mental illnesses with depression include, for example, anxiety disorders. Mental disorders often occur as a concomitant symptom of another physical illness such as coronary heart disease or diabetes mellitus (comorbid disorder).
In addition, women are
more likely than men to try to compensate for stress with sleeping pills and
sedatives and therefore have an increased risk of becoming dependent.
- Anxiety
disorders
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental
illness among women. For those affected, the fear develops its own dynamic and
is not appropriate to reality. However, the disorder is easily treatable.
- Burnout
syndrome
People with burnout syndrome often suffer from
declining work performance, health problems and a loss of quality of life. If
the disease is still in its early stages, individual work-life balance measures
can help.
- Depression
In contrast to short-term periods of sadness, which are part of everyone's normal existence, depression does not go away on its own. Depression should therefore always be treated professionally.
- Somatoform
disorder
Somatoform disorders are mental illnesses in
which those affected complain of physical complaints for which there is no
adequate medical explanation. If you have mild symptoms, your family doctor can
be the first point of contact.
- Obsessive
Compulsive Disorder
